RECOGNITION
Alta Loma High School believes that students who demonstrate outstanding achievement will be recognized.
Academic Recognition: Seniors earn academic recognition and regalia when demonstrating consistent academic success for seven semesters. The final 7th semester GPA will determine eligibility for the achievements listed below. Recognition is based on weighted grades. There is no application required, students automatically qualify if they achieve the following:
Honor Roll: 3.0 – 3.49 GPA from second semester of freshman year through first semester of senior year with a minimum of four graded classes each semester. The students receive a gold tassel to wear at graduation.
Principal’s Honor Roll: 3.5 – 3.74 GPA for first seven semesters with a minimum of four graded classes each semester. The students receive a gold cord to wear at graduation.
Cum Laude Society: (Latin for “with praise”) recognizes those seniors who have maintained a 3.75 GPA or higher with no D’s or F’s in a rigorous college preparatory program through seven semesters of high school. Members of the society have their names noted in the commencement program, have Cum Laude printed on the diploma and receive a certificate at the Senior Awards Ceremony and wear a gold stole at graduation.
Superintendent’s Honor Roll: This honor is presented to the highest achieving seniors. In order to be awarded, a student must have no grade less than an A- in any course during freshman, sophomore, and junior years (straight A’s for grades 9-11). These seniors wear a multi-color cord at the graduation ceremony.
California Scholarship Federation (C.S.F.): White Cord at graduation
The California Scholarship Federation supports and encourages academic excellence for students during their sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. Students are eligible to qualify beginning with their first sophomore grades. Apply at the beginning of each semester and pay the small membership fee. Applications are available from advisor. Life members (seal bearers) will have qualified for 4 semesters by the end of their senior year and receive honors at graduation. 100% members will have qualified for all 6 semesters by the end of their senior year and receive the highest honors at graduation. All life members wear white cords at graduation and receive a gold CSF seal on their diploma.
A-G COMPLETION: Blue Cord
Students who graduate completing the CSU/UC A-G requirements will receive a blue cord to wear during the graduation ceremony. The blue cord signifies that the student completed a rigorous sequence of courses designed to prepare him or her for post-secondary education.
Student of the Month
Each month of the school year a different instructional department chooses outstanding students from each grade level. A ceremony is held and, each recipient receives a pin.
State Seal of Biliteracy: The State Seal of Biliteracy is an award given to students who have studied and attained proficiency in English and one or more other languages by high school graduation. Students must meet GPA, state testing, and language class participation to qualify. This award is to help students recognize the value of their academic success and see the tangible benefits of being bilingual. These seniors wear a black/gold braided cord at the graduation ceremony.
Academic Regalia
Due to the cost of regalia, students who have not purchased their ASB card will have to purchase their academic regalia to wear at graduation (some exceptions, such as the blue cord, apply).
